Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What exactly does Model Talent Group do?

A: Model Talent Group is a full-service management agency, representing men, women, and children through its 3300 sq. ft office located in the historic river market district of Kansas City, Missouri. Model Talent Group currently works with hundreds of professional models, actors, singers, dancers, and performers. We specialize in providing talent for trade shows, conventions, promotional events, sampling, product promotion, parties, print, runway, catalog, etc.

Q: What can MTG do for me?

A: WE DO WHAT IS BEST. If you are an amateur, we may manage you. Please realize that we MUST be honest with you. WE cannot possibly work with everyone that we see. If you need better marketing materials, we provide the best in the business. If you are a professional and aggressive enough, we BOOK you for jobs locally and open up top markets for you worldwide. We are unique in this industry as a "management agency". We have the experience and expertise to successfully work ALL aspects of this industry for any level of talent.

Q: How much success will I have in this business?

A: Success depends on many factors, including looks, determination, luck, and timing. And not everyone defines success in the same way. Whatever your goals and no matter what kind of modeling, acting, or singing you do, if you do it professionally and with a positive attitude, you can make an impression on someone in the industry. Many of our talent have started by doing promotional work or smaller local jobs, have proven themselves and been given the opportunity for bigger and better things. You will find all types of opportunities with MTG. It is up to you to take advantage of them.

Q: Do I have to pay money directly to MTG to be represented?

A: NO, if you are a professional we book you directly and make a 20% fee. However you must possess quality marketing materials (portfolio, composite cards, headshot/resumes and ABILITY) and the basic skills necessary to be considered "agency ready" for us as a professional. You may develop these on your own or MTG may or may not be able to assist you in developing these materials moving forward.

Q: Can MTG guarantee that I will work as talent?

A: NO! Any business, hobby, sport or career must be developed over time. It is up to each individual to utilize the resources provided by MTG to take their best shot at success.

Q: How much money can I make modeling or acting?

A: Rates of pay really vary in this industry. Most people like to dream of the big payday or of the glamorous life that models and actors live. Actually the odds of getting to the level of a Tyra Banks or Tom Cruise are about the same as winning the lottery. Not that good. But don't sell yourself short. Realize that even they were in your shoes at one time and that with persistence, the right attitude, the right look, a lot of no's and of course timing and luck you have the same chances they had. As for rates of pay, depending on your level of experience and the market in which you are working, the following is typical: Promotional work is usually $12 - $20 an hour, Print from $75 - $150 an hour and fashion $175 an hour.

Q: Do I need to take any classes to get started?

A: Taking modeling or acting classes is purely a decision to make on your own. Are they needed to get your foot in the door? NO. Do they help you prepare for a career in the industry? Maybe. For actors certain schools or classes may help in teaching you the classic methods of this skill, but in some cases, either you have it already or you don't. The best experience is getting out there and doing it. For modeling the same applies. Generally modeling schools are for younger kids that are trying to learn confidence or proper etiquette. Schools should not guarantee success on any level. Being seen, going to a variety of auditions, go-sees and castings is truly your best shot when it comes to getting experience.

Q: I've been asked to come to the agency for an interview, what should I wear?

A: Dress appropriately - no jeans or tennis shoes. This is an interview, so treat it like one. Remember, you only get one chance to make a first impression! Wear comfortable shoes, too, as you will be asked to walk a runway.

Q: What should I expect when I get there?

A: You should expect to have a lot of fun! If you have fun, it will show in everything you do, from walking a runway to reading a script. This is a wonderful, exciting opportunity, so please don't be late! First, one of our agency directors will give a brief overview of the company. Then you will then be asked to walk a runway - when asked to walk, the most important thing to remember is to smile! We want to see your personality on the runway, not a perfect walk - you can learn that later! Next, you will be asked to meet with the director of New Faces for a short interview. Be prepared to answer questions about yourself, your experience, hobbies, education, and what you hope to accomplish in this industry.

Q: What if I have NO experience?

A: Don't worry - we regularly interview industry professionals as well as novices. If MTG determines that you have what it takes to work with us, we will assist you with your basic presentation skills and the organization of your portfolio, digital composite card, acting headshots, and resumes. If you already have them, even better, we can potentially book you immediately.

Q: Does this interview cost me any money?

A: Absolutely not! You should NEVER be charged for an interview. You must understand that without ANY professional pictures, composite cards, headshots, or acting experience, you must be prepared to invest time, energy, and money, (as you would for any other hobby, interest or career)if YOU are serious about moving forward within the industry. MTG feels we can offer ALL talent the best advice, guidance, and experience not offered or available elsewhere. Our initial meeting is simply for us to meet each other and see if there is a fit somewhere within our agency for you.

Q: Should I bring anything with me to my interview?

A: Yes, a positive attitude! Also, we would like to see two recent snapshots of you to keep on file. The pictures should be of you ALONE. One picture should be a headshot and the other a body shot that shows us what shape you are in. If you have no interest in doing body work, then a full body shot showing personality would be fine. These can be simple photographs taken by a friend - nothing professional is needed for us to see you. Please keep in mind these photos will NOT be returned. However, if you are an industry professional, please bring your comp card, head shot/resume, and your portfolio.

Q: What if MTG is not interested in me?

A: Don't be discouraged. We see tons of people every month who want to break into the business. Maybe you just need to tone your body, clear up your skin, or grow a bit more. Come back and try us in a year. Otherwise, try one of the other hundreds of legitimate agencies out there. Every agency is looking for something different. Best of luck to you!
